Fun Photo Project – Photobooth!

In much of the world people have rainy day fun projects – we have hot day indoor projects and I love doing fun photo projects with my kids that help to create memories for us all, not to mention fun things to hang on our walls – this was one we did one weekend last September when the temperatures were still in the high 40′s!!

We created photobooth photo strips for us all – one of each of us, and one of the girls together, one of me and T together and one of all of us and then I put them together into a photo collage!

The girls really didn’t quite understand the concept of a photo booth!! We just don’t have them here – if you want your passport pics doing in Abu Dhai you go to a photo studio!! I let each of us have only 6 photos (I know it’s usually only 4 but I had to give the kids a chance!!) the only stipulation being 1 had to be a nice one, and the others could be as goofy and funny as they liked! We then downloaded them and chose 4 for each strip and put them together in photoshop – we used these photostrip overlays (they work in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements) and put them all together. If you don’t have photoshop you could easily do it as a collage project, making a photostrip frame from black card and sticking the individual photos in. (Edited to add: the day after I published this post I spotted this photobooth website on Pinterest - another great alternative to making collages if you don’t have Photoshop!)

Here’s the final version…..

I printed the page up as a 12 x 16 and popped it into a nice simple Ikea frame – and hung it on one of our photo walls – voila! It makes me smile every time I walk by it

It’s January!!! Here’s to a new year!! And my first Project 10 of the year (go here to find out how it started and how I’m involved with a fabulous group of photographers from around the globe, and here to see last months).

I was soooooo lucky to start out my 2012 on a beach in India. We love India, but visiting the Andaman Islands was amazing – they’re a set of tropical islands, closer to Thailand than India and they are just stunning, and so, so friendly and so different from the normal hustle and bustle of Indian life. I admit, I kinda forgot about this project – I was so very in the chilled out zone whilst away – but these are pieced together from our last morning hanging out at our beach hut in remote North Andaman, before changing and taking a sea plane back down to Port Blair, the capital and heading to Ross Island to visit the ruins of the old British headquarters.We’ve been back just 3 days and I’ve loved this project this month for forcing me to abandon the laundry and tidying of Christmas decorations to sit down and play with some photos and take myself back there… so enjoy a day in the life of the Andamans…

Driving the auto!! They really had so much fun – my girls would move tomorrow to a country soley on the basis of it having auto’s or tuk tuks!!!

Waiting for the plane – with our 1 bag (and a good job we travel light too as you can’t take the plane if you have more than 5kg luggage per person!!!) and a view of the beautiful islands as we flew over…..

Saffy sat up front and helped drive the auto from Port Blair airport to our hostel – she was so thrilled with herself (we hired the same driver to take us to the airport the next day to fly back to Delih and so Indy got her turn too!!)

Boat back from the island and kulfi from the dockside seller – oh so yummy!!

Dosas for dinner – always a hit, and making sure she got the last drop of her mango lassi!!

That was a much busier day than most of our days on the islands, where we hung out at the beach, or at our hut, or went on a jungle trek or sat around eating parathas all morning, or went to the beach, or to another island… you get the picture…

2011 – what a year!!!! I totally intended to post this remotely on New Years Eve while I was away but it turns our my hubby had picked a holiday destination with no cell phone signal or internet – oh it was bliss – but really I digress… what I need to talk about is 2011…… I have been so truly blessed by the amazing people this year has brought into my life. It’s been a year of smiles – a year of friendships – a year where I saw families grow – babies enter this world – love blossom – children develop. It’s been a year where I got to photograph weddings, engagements, births, babies and families – so many beautiful families.

It’s been a year where I’ve been able to spread my creative wings and take on more editorial and commercial work – and more charity work to help causes important to me. I’ve worked with truly incredible vendors who have trusted me to showcase their beautiful work.

It was a year where I’ve marvelled at the incredible importance of what I’m blessed enough to do, with photographs, in holding memories for families who have lost loved ones, seeing babies I photographed go off to school and I’ve felt humbled watching the strength of one of my families who are battling cancer with amazing grace.

I get to capture connections, I get to capture emotion, I get to capture precious moments in time, I get to capture realness…. I’ve shed tears, lost hair, lost sleep, not to mention lost my marbles a few times – but I’ve had so many smiles and so much laughter too – I pour my heart and soul into what I do and I can’t thank you all enough for your incredible support, and for opening up your homes and lives to me…

Enjoy some of my favourite moments….

Thank you for an incredible year – I can’t wait to see what 2012 brings….

Christmas in snapshots..

Hope those of you who celebrated had a wonderful Christmas. Thanks you for the lovely messages on FB, emails, texts and cards. Ours was lovely and quiet and peaceful. Thought I’d share just a few snapshots of the preparations – including the antics of Ivor our elf – and the day in the Larmour Household.

Kirsty Larmour Photography will be closed until mid January but don’t go away, there will be an end of year sideshow celebrating all the wonderful things 2011 brought this way…

Brothers | Abu Dhabi Petite Sessions

Big brother used to be on my site from when he was teeny – but look at him all grown up and handsome…

but little brother had never sat in front of my camera before

My clients love to throw in little challenges for me – especially with pets – but Tobi was my first ever tortoise!!! Chloe was the most adorable smiley girl and I love the ones of her on the grass with her little pet!

Once Tobi was all modelled out the rest of us headed down to the beach for a play on the sunbeds….

and a totally gorgeous hazy sunset…

Love the families I get to meet – yet again I can’t believe I haven’t blogged these sooner…. but I’m on a roll now so maybe you’ll see more… till then, Kirsty xx

I’m a bad blogger – a really bad blogger – especially when it comes to posting my gorgeous clients – you see, over the last year my focus has been on actually getting pictures to clients – getting them in their hands, on their walls and on their coffee tables… and one of the sad facts of Abu Dhabi life is that people leave here, and move on to other places or head back home… like these three little cuties – who had a shoot to remember their time in Abu Dhabi before they left, and it was more important that they had their pictures before the movers arrived, and so I never got round to blogging them…

when I was looking back through this years clients I could hardly believe I’d not shared them..

are they just adorable or what??

I hope you’ve all settled back into life in England and have happy memories of Abu Dhabi hanging on your walls

I could have shared all the pictures from their shoot I loved them so much but I’ll be back to share some more client gorgeousness soon, Kirsty x

Project 10 November | Abu Dhabi Lifestyle Photographer

My goodness how can we be a 3rd of the way into this project already??? If you’ve not seen the Project 10 before you can read how we got started here. I usually do the project over a day the first week of the month – this month that fell on the week of the Eid holiday here in UAE. Much of the celebrating happens in peoples homes, but people also use it as an excuse to get out and about – we used it as an opportunity to go up to Dubai and do some things on our Dubai wish list!

The day started off gently with some lounging around…

before we set off on the journey… (yes they are the worlds biggest chapatis from the bakery by our home!)

When we got there things didn’t work out as we hoped – some things we wanted to do we couldn’t, but we did manage to get to Ras Al Khor, a wetland site in the middle of Dubai, to see the flamingos (and to check out how crazy big the Burj Khalifa looks compared to the rest of Dubai!).I worked on a Ramsar site back in Hong Kong so I was really excited to see another big city Ramsar site – I have to say, I was a little disappointed – but the kids loved playing with the binoculars and seeing all the birds

And then we headed down towards the creek to explore some galleries and have a rest and a drink

These girls will take any space and turn it into a dancing stage!!!

We rounded the day off with a trip to the Dubai Mall (the worlds biggest mall no less, and believe me it felt like half the world were in there!!) and dinner at the rainforest cafe, before heading to see the fountains, which we couldn’t see through the crowds!! Ah well, something for us to do another time… and here’s proof that even photographer Mummies break out their pop up flash sometimes, and take the cheesy tourist shot!!!
