And such a sweet boy he was – he even dropped off to sleep, despite the fact he was a little older than my newborns usually are (bad Kirsty for not planning my holiday around Gemma’s due date )

He even slept through a 4 year old and 2 year old bouncing all over the bed while we captured their first pictures as a family of five.

They’re the daughters of my “baby” (over 6 ft tall baby!!!) brother, and Rebecca, the big one, was even flower girl at our wedding – aged just 4 months!!

My girls and them hadn’t seen each other in over 2 years and they got on fabulously, which as Saffy would say made “my heart feel super happy”!

I can’t tell you how hugely flattered I was when my sis-in-law asked me to take photos of their girls – when your family love the art you create, because they reeeeeeeally love it, and not just because they have to cos they’re related to you, it really means something.

So yes, I’m biassed, but Becks and Lulu, you really are two of my favourite little girls and I hope you and your Mummy and Daddy love just how gorgeous you look here,

PS and looking through these again I’m struck yet again by how different mine and my brothers girls look – Ali and I are similar in colouring (though he doesn’t have redish hair like me) but his girls with their big brown eyes, and mine with their blue ones couldn’t be less alike!! The gene pool is a funny old thing huh?

And when it came togather one day in March (yes, it has taken me that long to blog these  -ugh, I’m bad) I just planted the ideas in the girls heads and sat back and watched, from a distance, and it evolved, and they play ate, and play fed, and read stories, and danced, and took walks with their bears, and did ballerina twirls, and arranged things, just right, and played their musical jewellery box, and had cups of tea, and made tea for me, and sang and laughed and ate and danced some more…..

This is my favourite kind of shoot – no pressure to perform, no lens in your face (when I said I watched from a distance I meant it – they’re almost all with my 70-200mm lens), no nagging, hovvering Mum, no awkward Dad, no fixed-for-the-camera-fake smiles, just kids, and some of their favourite things and time and space and unlimited imagination to enjoy them… and that kind of freedom makes for magical, whimsical images, that are true to them, and their personalities, and create a real, true memory of this place in time… and they’re not perfect, but neither am I, and neither are my girls but I love them…..

Mansour is just the sweetest boy – and was full of hugs for his gorgeous Mama too – awwwww…. Seriously could he be any cuter?And do you know just how many girls are jealous of those gorgeous, gorgeous eyelashes?

Just adorable, and adored…

Even putting his naked bottom on a cold marble floor didn’t wipe the smiles off his darling face – I love that he still has that gorgeous baby chubbiness that they lose once they’re really on the move…

And he’s just starting to be on the move – he thought it was hilarious to try and throw himself off the end of the bed at me!!!

I loved having an early morning beach session with these guys -I’ve said it before – and for sure I’ll bore you all by saying it again, but the early morning light in AD is just divine!

I’m not a mathemetician but I know that “Early morning light + beautiful baby bump + long wavy grass = two of my favourite maternity images, ever”I love how the light just outlines her here…. can you belive her due date is less than a week away?

Oh sweet baby fingers and toes….

She is already very much Daddy’s little Princess and spent much of our session snuggled up with him – proving me wrong when I say that week old newborns often sleep through much of their first photo shoot!!! I love this dramatic shot of big strong Daddy with his tiny fragile Princess.

She did give us some moments of sleep, oh so peaceful….
