I can’t tell you how giddy with excitement I was when I got an email from Lonely Planet saying they wanted to use one of my photos in the November issue of their magazine. It’s certainly not the first time I’ve seen my pictures in print, but as you know, I’m a bit of a travel junkie, and passionate about photography so this is just the perfect combination!
The picture is another one from our trip to Northern India last year. Saffy was checking out her reflection in the plates in the kitchen at the Golden Temple in Amritsar (they serve up 40,000 meals a day there to pilgrims – and everyone who visits chips in and does a little peeling or dish washing, such an amazing community spirit!) and this little girl copied her and was similarly fascinated. It’s a pure caught in the moment picture. I love it, and I was overjoyed that LP clearly did too!!
And for those who do think we’re crazy taking our kids to India – Indy was still a little young, but Saffy loved the Golden temple – we visited first at night when the the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib was being ceremoniously moved from it’s day position – Saffy was fascinated by them putting the book to bed and thought the chanting was them reading it a story – the next morning she couldn’t wait to go back to see if the book had woken up. It’s amazing how children let their imaginations play and find places that we sometimes consider too adult for them just captivating. She now points out the Golden Temple on TV adverts or posters and shouts “I’ve been there – that’s Amritsar”.
I’m now getting super excited about our next trip to India – 3 weeks to go!!! Kirsty x
