Wow, what a year 2017 was. A rollercoaster in many ways for some of my loved ones, but with the downs there are always the ups! And for me, seeing beautiful families in my favourite places in Abu Dhabi is all part of what makes a year great. And just look at them!! So much gorgeousness photographed either at the beach, roaming the desert, snuggled in peoples homes or hanging out at the park. I got to capture babies on the day they arrived, and as we waited for them, and can even share an amazingly beautiful, long anticipated water birth which was without doubt an emotional highlight. There were families departing for new lands or returning home with hearts full of Abu Dhabi love. I photographed people delight in this beautiful Emirate of ours when visitors came to Abu Dhabi from all over the world. I met a family who drove from Saudi Arabia, and visitors from USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, UK and Australia as well former Abu Dhabi dwellers who came to re-live some memories on holiday. I got to photograph babies, and grandparents meeting for the first time too. So many beautiful, incredible moments of Abu Dhabi families that just help me to burst with love for my job.
Last year (2016) I was lucky enough to have my first book “Photography on the Fly” released by ClickinMoms, and in 2017 I was asked to contribute to a group release “The Moment Before” which was another fascinating experience. I also presented at another major international photography conference, this time the incredible Xposure Conference in Sharjah – not only did I get to present a workshop called “Shooting from the Heart” to a simply lovely group of students, but I walked away with my creativity bucket filled from talking to so many other inspirational photographers from around the globe. I led another ClickinWalk, this time in Abu Dhabi and met so many other lovely ladies who are also passionate about photography.
I got to travel, of course, with 2 trips to France, one to England, plus a trip with my girls to Thailand and a family trip we called the “Mountains and Monasteries” trip to Eastern Tibet – which despite the thin air and the dizzy heads was one of the most spectacular places I’ve been. Yes, kick me, I really need to blog photos from that, but they are all there hanging out on my Instagram (one of my favourite little places on the internet if I’m to share a secret with you!!)
But this post isn’t meant to be about me, it’s about my lovely families – the people, right here in Abu Dhabi, and from across the United Arab Emirates who travel here and who trust me, who relax with me, who are themselves with me. The people who ask me to capture them just as they are, to capture their love, and their laughter – you’ll see so much laughter – and here are some of my favourite 2017 moments with them.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for a beautiful year – here’s to more photo adventures and exciting times ahead in 2018,
