La Leche League of Abu Dhabi has produced a calendar to promote awareness of breastfeeding here in the U.A.E. I was so thrilled to be involved with this project. So many people think that you can’t breastfeed in Abu Dhabi because it’s a Muslim country, or that you need to hide away. My task was simply to photograph lovely ladies feeding beautiful babies in a wide selection of locations around the city, just to show that it can be done.
The next task is for us to see the calendars up in every cafe, nursery, school, gym and doctors waiting room around town to help raise awareness that no matter how little, or how long you feed your baby for, you don’t need to hide away. If you think you can help out selling half a dozen to some of those places please do let me know!!
The calendar couldn’t have been produced without the help of some wonderful organisations – huge thanks for supporting the mothers of Abu Dhabi goes out to the following:
Jay Davies – personal trainer and nutritionist
Global Printing Press
The calendar will be on sale at LLL meetings, at the events for Breastfeeding Week 2010 – particularly the tea party at the One to One hotel this coming Sunday (7th November), at the Abu Dhabi Kidz Biz launch party (27th November) or direct from Tracy at LLL, or from myself.
Last but not least, a massive thank you goes to all the ladies and babies who modelled and made this all possible – lets hope it really does help to raise awareness and break down some of the taboos about breastfeeding here in Abu Dhabi,

Caitlin - Beautiful job, Kirsty!!!!
john - very special
Steph - Do you know that most of the local ladies breastfeed in the “prayer” rooms at the malls? I’ve lived here for 4 years and only just learned this. They don’t mind at all if you join them (=
