Sometime in January I headed out of town to location scout for some great spots for some Abu Dhabi desert shoots – what happened instead was that I ended up filming some behind the scenes for my latest break out, and they ended up being some of my favourite photos!!! I had my camera, but really I was quite wholly unprepared for capturing video of me shooting and preparing, and anticipating moments – which was kind of the whole point of the thing since the break out is called “The Moment Before” Anyway, for those of you who haven’t bought the Break Out, or “Photography on the Fly” (which contains more wonderful behind the scenes from a desert shoot with a family and how I conduct desert shoots) here are some of my favourite moments.

In the videos that accompany the break out I talk through how I anticipated the moments and waited until I saw what I loved. I explain how I give small directions to nudge subjects (my kids in this case!) in the direction I want to capture the pretty light too.
