Ginger Unzueta - I love your realness Kirsty, coupled with the optimism. We certainly all face hard days as mamas, as children, as people, but as we look and find the joy, the things to be grateful for within these times, somehow we find the peace we need. What a beautiful example of that this letter is to your girls.
Anna-Liisa - Ours has been a grumpy home this month too with lots of exhausted small and big people trying to get used to all the day to day things we have to cram in! Sara T - Kirsty! “Down in the dump, grumpy guts”. I adore this saying and I will repeat it in my house one day, thanks to you. I do love your optimism even in those months you are trying to regain your life’s rhythm. It can be so difficult, but rewarding once the rhythm is reset and peace is restored. I adore the way you write with conviction. I don’t think you are delusional. I think this is the ebb and flow of life. I have my kids on a goal and point system complete with a checklist every morning. Mornings in our house are “golden”.
rowe - how i can relate to every word… how we love them more than life itself but they can make us crazy at times and on one hand we feel like it will never end and on the other we find ourselves dreaming of days where things feel normal again! sometimes it takes little longer than we hope to reach our happy place but when we do, we are so thankful because of the grumpy days! i like to think the grey cloud days are kind of a blessing in disguise! maybe thats just me? rowe x (p.s. love your imperfectly perfect film photos lovely)
Sarah C - I love this. So real, and so the image is so beautiful! We have plenty of times like these. Our four children are all so different and sometimes that is enough for them to get along so well, and then other times they are seriously outshouting each other and I am ready to hide in a corner lol! We also have a growler too so I may have gotten a giggle there. I love you and your sweet girls, and though we have never “met” in person I feel like you are a dear friend. Some day I hope our girls can meet, because I know my little ladies would adore yours!

Mairi Clare - Hi Kirsty

Not quite so original as Indy, but Aaron did a similar topic last year and he was the only one who put anything remotely thoughtful (all the other children bar none put sports star/popstar). He wanted (and still wants) to be an engineer and palaeontologist – the TA apparently had to get the dictionary out to put the second one on the display.

It made me very proud that he knows his own mind and didn’t just follow the crowd. We continue to support his dream and will see what becomes of it in years to come – we have kept the sheet he wrote it on 🙂

amy grace - kirsty…first of all, i was making sounds when i looked at these pictures. ohhs and ahhhs like crazy. because oh, the joy you capture. it’s as if you have a magic wand and are able to transform a scene into the way we feel it move. stunning and epic and wonderful pictures. “that day it rained”, and then your honest kind of humor. and the words – i read this twice, the second time to soak up the advice for myself. it was so relevant to me too, at thirty five, after some things that left me feeling shaken. you are such a pleasure to know. and these girls are as beautiful and alive and LUCKY as their mama. xoxo
summer - AHHHH…the joy of the simple things…in love here! And YES dirt washes off…these are the carefree and glorious things childhood memories are made of! Your kids will have more of these kinds of memories than most Kirsty! They are so blessed. And the negatives that happen to all of us are the things that help us to grow and enjoy life ironically…it’s one of the VERY most important lessons to be learned if you want to be happy in my opinion! Ginger Unzueta - I always enjoy reading your posts each month. I can relate so well to you. Your words—that all you want is time, you need nothing else. I can relate so well. No matter what we do, time seems to get this hold on us and it goes by so quickly, doesn’t it? I can tell you truly enjoy your girls and its beautiful!
amy grace - kirsty, your world is color and life and energy and SO much love. we all want that time i think. wish we could use it in different ways, try out choices, do it over and over. i am always struck by this feeling that you are teaching your girls so much about how to live IN the world. you are busy because you are engaged, doing things, experiencing wildly different places, making home about who you are, not where you are. i just cannot help feeling alive, happy, hopeful and lighter looking at these pictures. it’s one of your talents. they are sunshine and you know how to frame that perfectly. i love the mama you are.

Debbie Wibowo - Oh Kristy..what an awesome location and the pics where they stood on the roof of the car is super awesome! As a mom, I think of all us can definitely relate to more TV/movie time and I always feel guilty about it. I love reading the part how you spend the quality time with your daughters..cuddling and sharing stories. They sure are memorable.
amy grace - kirsty, your images are always so incredibly striking, so perfect. the places you find, that surround you seem to match your spirit. your daughters will know their mother as a force of nature, as someone who models the drive and hope and optimism that will get them where they dream of going. life gets busy, and sometimes in those times, we find our strength, resourcefulness and independence. they are finding their way with you as their loving guide, showing them their deep beauty. the quiet times in between that you describe are ever the more precious. it is your perfect. keep basking in that stunning light you find. you inspire me xoxo

Sara T - Oh WOW. Those of your girls on the top of the car and your eldest under the tree, the two of them hugging, my favs. I love that you “love them higher than the highest mountain and down again”. It is the best to hear how we express our love in a way they can comprehend. I think it is so lovely to hear about putting your “busies” into perspective and time of year. It is okay that we do have them watching more movies than we would like. And beans and toast? I want that recipe. I’ll bet it’s a good one 🙂 Beautiful, Kirsty.

And while I know how busy this time of year is for you (I myself had to resort to the TV more than i care to admit), you are such a wonderful Mom and your girls will have so amazing fond memories of their childhood. And toast and beans for dinner sounds pretty yummy to me! 🙂
shalonda - oooohhhh kirsty! i feel ya mama its def a pretty crazy time of the year…BUT…i love your outlook on it! WHen i quit my “real job” to be a mom i always heard that little ugly voice in my brain saying “but what will your daughters think of you, just staying home?!” then my life took this path and i found photography and i realized just how much they will learn from me and me “just staying home” 🙂 wonderfully said and beautifully finished…as YES THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR SNUGGLES. xoxo sweet friend
Val Spring - Oh Kirsty, you have no idea how identify I feel with this letter! It’s been the same way around here. You know you are not the only one. But what you said is so true. it’s good for them to see how hard you work to help have the lifestyle that you have and it’s ok for them to have to wait or to hear a “not today” every now and then. And as you said, there’s ALWAYS time for some snuggles. 🙂 I just love reading your letters and looking at the gorgeous photos of your sweet girls. Your life is so fun to watch from this side of the world! Thanks for sharing it 🙂

I love what you wrote Kirsty.. this season is like that for all of us isn’t it? I am going to remember what you said.. that it is GOOD for the girls to see a hard working mum… that sometimes that is okay and they can fend for themselves a little more than usual. Just reading that I let go of a little bit of mom guilt I was feeling myself. I can’t wait to meet you someday.. i feel like we are kindred spirits. xo

That is okay to mourn and through the mourning, remembering and sadness life is SO MUCH clearer, sharp and succinct. I love your teachings and “life lessons”.
